I have been at various times a teacher (of science, specialising in biology and horticulture); a librarian (charged with managing a branch library in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand); and more recently a freelance journalist and editor for EDiT.

During my teaching career I trained as a remedial teacher, through SPELD, and learnt to teach students with specific learning disabilities (‘dyslexia’). I also wrote three horticulture textbooks, to make that complex topic easier to understand. Growing Plants 1 and 2 and Growing Plants for NCEA Level 1 were published by Reed Heinemann and have an excellent print history. At the same time I compiled and published a grower and packhouse manual for ENZA – New Zealand’s largest pipfruit exporter: and wrote a gardening feature for a local newspaper.

Bringing up children and grandchildren has given me a keen interest in anything to do with health. I love the outdoors, am keen on travel and would like to develop a latent interest in drawing and painting.
